Dr. Dirk Dittemore is a native Kansan. He was born in Liberal and raised in Highland. He graduated from Friends University with a degree in chemistry and biology with a minor in mathematics. Dr. Dittemore received the All-American Award each year for baseball while attending Friends University. He went to work for Koch Industries following graduation and worked for two years in the Research and Development Department under the direction of Dr. J. Hubbard. Dr. Hubbard encouraged Dr. Dittemore to pursue a Ph.D. degree in chemistry. Following much deliberation and with the encouragement of his father, who was a pathologist, Dr. Dittemore decided to pursue a career in optometryn After graduating from Southern California College of Optometry, Dr. Dittemore completed a one-year residency at the Kansas City VA Medical Center under the direction of Dr. Timothy Harkins.
Dr. Dittemore began his career in private practice in the Kansas City area after completion of his VA residency. He worked in this capacity for several years prior to taking a position at Irwin Army Community Hospital at Fort Riley. This was followed by work at Munson Army Health Center at Fort Leavenworth. Dr. Dittemore was offered and accepted a position at the Roseburg VA Medical Center in Roseburg, Oregon. He worked as a Staff Optometrist and served as an adjunct professor for Pacific University College of Optometry for the last eighteen years. In this capacity, Dr. Dittemore oversaw the clinical and didactic education of student interns. Dr. Dittemore treated and managed a high number of patients who presented with macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts, diabetes, uveitis, and other forms of ocular disease. Dr. Dittemore returns to Kansas to join The EyeDoctors Optometrists in Junction City. He enjoys providing comprehensive eye care services, including the treatment and management of ocular diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, as well as ocularrelated emergencies.
Dr. Dittemore enjoys running, fishing, hunting, gardening, and giving golf lessons. He is currently training to run his first ultramarathon. One of the skills that Dr. Dittemore has mastered after many years of attempts is the making of sourdough bread and Chinese Dim Sum. Dr. Dittemore and his wife, Dr. Kimberlynn Dittemore, are the parents of two adult children. Their daughter played four years for the Montana State University women's golf team and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in entomology. Their son commissioned as an officer after graduating from the United States Naval Academy and currently serves as an Aviator for the United States Navy.
